Nuclear Power Risk Perception in Serbia: Fear of Exposure to Radiation vs. Social Benefits

Nuclear power remains one of the most accessible choices in addressing environmental and social concerns due to continuously increasing energy needs around world. While it an excellent source its low price level emissions, potential accidents remain a serious problem. An example such is recent accident Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant (2011), which reminded world risks nuclear consequences continue have lasting effect. There no plant Serbia, but there are about 15 stations scattered within neighboring countries. Therefore, Serbian Government decided study how public perceives related construction country, general, possible benefits risks. The objective this paper present results assessment along with literature overview on (environmental) risk power. A pilot consisted series 270 randomized face-to-face interviews that took place square Belgrade March 2019. Logistic regression was used examine cumulative effects different factors. showed majority respondents skeptical do not support Serbia.
